Central Conference Women Ministries 2008 Conference Project
Central Conference Women Ministries has chosen “Dressers for Dignity” as its project for 2008. The goal of this project is to raise $2,500 - $4,000 for 16-26 dressers for Hannah House, a family shelter. Hannah House is run by Cornerstone Community Outreach (CCO), a ministry of Jesus People USA Evangelical Covenant Church. Hannah House accommodates 20-26 women with their teen girls and small children in an open dorm setting. Each family is provided with a couple of bunk beds, clothing, food, and services for 4 or more months. Currently, many families store their clothes in bags next to their bunk beds. Our goal is to provide a sturdy dresser for each family to hold clothing and personal items. The cost of each dresser is $150.00. Could your church women or small group gift Hannah House with a dresser or a contribution towards one? Please prayerfully consider giving to this ministry and continue to pray for the families its serves. Click here to download a PDF file of a poster to display at your church. Please make checks payable to CCWM and send them to: Julie Bromley, 2724 Harrison St., Glenview, IL 60025 Central Conference Women Ministries Fall Fellowship Sept. 12 –
14, 2008 AND Sept. 19 – 21, 2008 at Covenant Harbor Bible Camp, Lake Geneva, WI
"Being Filled and
Overflowing in Every Season" is our theme -- "May the God
of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may
overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Romans 15:13 NIV
Our speaker
for Fall Fellowship this year is Pastor Catherine Gilliard. Presently she is
living in Pine Lake, Georgia, serving in a church plant.
Catherine
was born in Lawrence, Kansas, and raised on the south side of Chicago during
the civil rights era. At the age of nine
her mother transferred her from the neighborhood elementary school to a white
school as part of a permissive transfer program. Her experience there gave her
inner toughness that helped develop her into an exemplary leader. She attended Lindblom Technical High School
and graduated as class president. After
graduating from the University of Kansas, in 1979 she married Deric Gilliard
and moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Deric and she have 3 children - Adam, Dominique
and daughter, Veronica.
Her first
role of leadership in the Covenant was fulfilling a term on the old World
Mission Board. She is the first woman in
the ECC to serve as chair of the executive board and the first woman president
of the AAMA (African American Ministers Association) and the first African
American president of the ACCW (Association of Covenant Clergy Women).
Catherine
feels that God has used her gifts of leadership during times of transitions.
“When I have said Yes to God I have found myself being used in ways that only
He could have provided. I sit at the table with godly women and men who are
more educated and influential than I, yet God has given me the opportunity to
speak into lives I would never have been able to access. It has truly been an amazing journey and with
each tomorrow I am sure many new adventures will unfold.”
During Fall
Fellowship she will describe and discuss the natural seasons of life and how
the Spirit of God can flow out of us to others as we encounter, transition and
move through each of them.
